Mission

Our mission is to leverage digital sciences and technologies in the service of sustainable and responsible fishing, by facilitating access to the tools and knowledge necessary for effective and environmentally friendly management of fishery resources.

Vision

Our vision is of a responsible and sustainable fishing and aquaculture sector, in which seafood-producing companies commit to protecting the marine ecosystem and biodiversity, promoting environmentally friendly practices throughout the value chain, and contributing to the socio-economic development of local communities

Our story

PONTOS is the first decision support software that integrates a human and environmental dimension. A company that Luis Diaz launched in partnership with INRIA, the French National Institute for Research in Digital Science and Technology. The company was born from his passion for seafood and technology plus the desire to lead a change.

After 10 years of activities in direct contact with fisherfolk on 4 continents to facilitate their access to environmental data, Luis was able to observe the daily lives of fisherfolk and the interest for them in developing the local dimension.

Sustainable fishing is a social issue as it guarantees stability and income for fishermen, and also for consumers thanks to the transparency and accessibility of products.

“Once the concept was tested, I went to Costa Rica to meet friends I admire among professional fishermen” explains Luis. PONTOS‘ adventure then began with the first fishing boats in a country highly aware of ecological issues.

Sustainable fishing

The principles of sustainable development applied to fishing

Selective fishing practices, reducing overfishing, bycatch and bottom destruction.

Taking into account the sustainability of biodiversity as well as stocks. Fishing quotas are determined by the distribution of authorized catch rates between countries

Artisanal fishing allows responsible and local fishing, the opportunity to discover fish less known by consumers

Projects to promote seafood products in a short circuit

Pontos is about more than fisheries — It’s about community progress
