Pontos at Assises de l'économie de la mer
The Assises de l'économie de la mer, France’s national maritime community event, took place in Bordeaux under the theme of a maritime economy in transition. Pontos was there to showcase our innovation and explain how artificial intelligence can support collaboration between fishers, scientists, and management authorities for more sustainable fishing.
The central theme for the 2024 edition was “L’économie maritime en transition” (“The Maritime Economy in Transition”). The event focused on the rapid changes facing the maritime sector, highlighting several key transitions :
Digital transition: The maritime industry is undergoing a significant digital transformation, with the adoption of artificial intelligence and digital technologies streamlining operations and revolutionizing traditional practices.
Industrial transition: Ports are being reshaped by new projects in hydrogen, batteries, and synthetic fuels, which bring both opportunities for job creation and challenges to established port operations.
Social transition: There is a growing emphasis on corporate social and environmental responsibility, as well as efforts to combat social dumping and raise labor standards in the sector.
Energy transition: The shift to alternative fuels for ships and the push for decarbonization are central, with international and European regulations (such as the Green Deal) driving major changes in port infrastructure and maritime operations.
Here are 4 ways Pontos' AI was presented as a tool to strengthen this collaboration:
➡️ Data Collection & Analysis
Pontos enabled more efficient collection and analysis of data on fish stocks and the marine environment. Fishers and scientists collaborated with us to explore the best ways to leverage sensor data.
➡️ Decision Support
Pontos’ AI helped fishers make better real-time operational decisions, optimize fishing efforts, comply with regulations, and reduce the carbon footprint of their vessels.
➡️ Fisheries Resource Management
By accelerating data collection and processing—often directly from fishers—Pontos supported more reliable fish stock assessments in line with current regulations.
➡️ Traceability & Transparency
Pontos reinforced traceability and transparency across the supply chain, promoting stronger collaboration among all stakeholders.
While challenges remain, the event marked a step forward. We were proud to share our progress and grateful for the many valuable exchanges and feedback. 💙
